What is Media Literacy (Saving the world one blog post at a time)

We watched two very interesting and thrilling videos on media literacy yesterday in class. Some things we would like to discuss from the first video are how 90% of our children's media is owned by one of six companies. This seems crazy that companies own so much of todays media because if there are only 6 corporations, their main goal is to make money and they do not care about the education of the younger generations.
The video we watched was about media literacy, media is anything like TV, internet, advertisements, etc. The media has a huge impact on todays society, the video was telling us that we should not just look at media, but critically look at it. We should also be able to create media, if we can create our own media, than we will know how to critically look at it, and understand how it is made.

The second video we watched in class was about media literacy education and choice. The media can be dangerous, not everything you read and see in the media is always true. Many viewpoints in media are left out, sometimes to make it seem more interesting or better.
No media message is objective, many viewpoints are left out. No matter how hard you try to cover all viewpoints there will almost always be at least one viewpoint left out especially on topics such as race, religion and politics. Many people have different opinions on these topics whether they agree or disagree with what is being said, often times their viewpoint is not completely the same with the ones being written about.
